Bay County Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce the hiring of its new Parks and Recreation Division Manager Joy Saddler.

Joy comes to Bay County from Florida State University Panama City, where she has been a faculty member for 10 years teaching in the Recreation, Tourism, and Events Department. Joy has worked at high-end resorts throughout the Panhandle, managing events and recreation departments as well as community centers and nonprofit organizations.

“My desire is to continue to inspire our team to foster safe parks and facilities that enhance our citizens’ and guests’ experiences,” Joy said. “Our staff have shown their dedication through their hard work recovering from Hurricane Michael, and we are now shifting gears to focus on maintaining and improving our facilities and expanding programs that will meet the needs of our growing communities in Bay County.”

We are also happy to announce the promotion of Vince Martin to his new position of Parks and Recreation assistant division manager. Vince has been with Bay County for 13 years. He began his career at Animal Control on Christmas Day in 2009 and transferred to Parks and Recreation a few months later. Vince has been an integral part of our Parks and Recreation team, and he said that he is looking forward to this new role.

“I would like to enhance the quality of life opportunities in our community,” Vince said, “while also updating our Parks facilities to their fullest potential. We have a great team at Bay County Parks and Recreation, and we love providing our citizens and visitors with the very best customer service possible.”  FSU professor becomes new Bay County parks and rec manager | WMBB (mypanhandle.com)

Our water was somewhat stained most of the period. The water temperature stayed above 62 over the past 7 days and reached 68 Wednesday afternoon. Fish action was slow but there were Pompano, Whiting, Red Drum, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel and a Bonnette Head Shark caught. Squid were slow for the first several days but came in in numbers Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday morning, the Cigar Minnows and Sardines were thick. We caught them all day.

A few Pompano were caught most days. The bite was not steady but if you were patient you had a chance to put one on the deck. Chad and Steve M. each got fish Thursday and today. Wednesday, Steve managed to catch his limit of six. Pompano rigs baited with Sand Fleas and tipped with “FishBite” got the most action.

Red Drum were few and far between, but several did hit the deck over the week. Fresh caught Squid was the best choice for bait. Jim caught a heartbreaker Monday that was ½ inch over slot. Then a visiting angler got a “Bull” Tuesday. Casey W. decked a couple this week as well. Both were 29 inches and had to be released.

Daily activity:

Thursday: water temp 64.2  - 65.7 Two Pompano, Bluefish

Friday: water temp 65.5 – 63.1 Bluefish

Saturday: water temp 63.1 – 63.3 One bull Red Drum, a Bonnette head Shark

Sunday: water temp 62.8 – 64.4 Few undersize Spanish Mackerel

Monday: water temp  64.4 – 66.0 Three Pompano, A Red Drum, A few Bluefish, Whiting and Squid

Tuesday: water temp 64.9 – 65.5 Whiting, 2 Pompano, 1 Red Drum, Bluefish and  Squid

Wednesday: water temp 65.5 – 68.2 Pompano, one Red Drum, Squid. The Cigar minnows and Sardines came in thick all day.
